The Honorable James H. Garrecht is retiring in early March as Routt County Judge in the 14th Judicial District. Judge Garrecht has been on the bench since January 1987, after being appointed by then Colorado Governor Dick Lamm.
Judge Garrecht is retiring because the mandatory age for retirement in Colorado is 72, and he turns 72 in August. He plans to stay in town, play some golf and take some vacations. His last day is March 4, which is also the birthday of his twin daughters.
A Nominating Commission for the 14th Judicial District is meeting via videoconference on Feb. 2 to interview the nine people who have applied. They’ll select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of Routt County judge.
