2022 Olympians headed to Steamboat for competition

The NCAA Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Championships start Thursday in Steamboat, with top athletes in both alpine and cross country. This is the final qualifier for the NCAA Championships in March. Nine Olympians from the Beijing games are competing in Steamboat through Saturday.

  • There will be three days of alpine racing at Howelsen Hill from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 24-26.
  • There will be two days of cross country racing at Howelsen from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 25-26.

2022 Cross Country Olympians Competing:

Sophia Laukli, USA, University of Utah

  • U.S. Ski Team D-Team
  • 15th in the 30km in Beijing (teammate Jessie Diggins earned historic silver medal in this race)
  • 5th in the 2021 U23 World Championships 10km
  • 5th in final stage of 2022 Tour de Ski World Cup
  • Silver medal in the relay at the 2020 Junior World Championships

 

Novie McCabe, USA, University of Utah

  • U.S. Ski Team D-Team
  • 18th in the 30km, 24th in the 10km, and 6th in the relay in Beijing
  • 7th in final stage of 2022 Tour de Ski World Cup
  • 3rd in the 5km and 15km at the 2021 NCAA Championship
  • Silver medal in the relay at the 2020 Junior World Championships

 

JC Schoonmaker, USA, University of Alaska-Anchorage

  • U.S. Ski Team A-Team
  • 15th in the sprint, 9th in team sprint in Beijing
  • Ranked 21 in the world in sprint
  • 2022 US National Champion

 

Luke Jager, USA, University of Utah

  • U.S. Ski Team D-Team
  • 25th in the sprint, 9th in the relay in Beijing
  • 2X Junior World Champion in Relay (2019 and 2020)

 

Mariel Pulles, Estonia, University of Alaska-Fairbanks, competed in three events in Beijing

 

2022 Alpine Olympians Competing:

Magdalena Luczak, Poland, University of Colorado, competed in GS, SL and Team Parallel in Beijing

Tomas Birkner, Argentina, University of Utah, competed in GS and SL in Beijing

Katie Parker, Australia, University of Utah, competed in SL in Beijing

Katie Vesterstein, Estonia, University of Utah, competed in GS and SL in Beijing
