Food Hall Coming to Steamboat Springs
Creating a new downtown community space
[Steamboat Springs, CO – March 2022] — Steamboat’s first food hall; The Commons, is slated to open this fall, bringing new energy for the community and to Steamboat’s downtown hub.
The Commons is located on 7th street between Lincoln and Yampa overlooking Butcherknife Creek. Previously the building housed downtown icons Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, The Ghost Ranch Saloon, and Backdoor Burger.
Currently, the building is home to Clyde’s Pies and Burlap and Berry Coffee Company. Locals are sure to find their spot here, as the food hall will provide a variety of food and beverage options and diverse seating and gathering places throughout to ensure everyone the experience and comfort they are looking for.
When new owners Adam Feiges and Cam Boyd purchased the building, they were excited about the opportunity to bring something new and unique to the community enhancing the attraction of downtown. “What we discovered
was that there isn’t really a community gathering place with large open spaces where you can have a variety of food and drink options throughout the day.” Boyd said. “We wanted a place where anyone can feel welcome to meet for coffee and pastries in the morning, wine and sandwiches for lunch and eclectic menu items and cocktails for dinner in the evenings.”
The building is currently undergoing a renovation designed by Doro Architecture and being completed by Garcia Construction. The renovation will add 3 kitchens, a coffee shop, and a bar on the main level. The ground floor will be home to two additional food vendors; one including a wood fire oven. These street level spaces will have walkup access and bar seating, activating the unnamed alley and bringing new life to this important downtown thoroughfare. A commissary kitchen on the ground floor will allow for additional prep space and a ghost kitchen.
The Commons is adding a brand new 650+ sq. foot veranda off the main level over the alley side of the building in addition to an update of the original balcony off the upper level overlooking Howelsen Hill. With over 200 seats, the space will provide a comfortable opportunity to find your place to get some work done, have a midday lunch break or meet up with friends and family for après or dinner.
The Commons will provide an opportunity for small business growth in Steamboat. The increasing popularity of food halls combined with low startup costs and operating expenses has created a prime opportunity for restaurateurs and chefs to access the market. Most vendors will offer a small but high-quality menu with a variety that allows any individual or group to find something they enjoy. The business development team is currently working on finding the right mix of vendors to fill our remaining kitchens.
The Commons is happy to announce that the bar will be owned and operated by Steamboat local and owner of The Barley, Justin Keys. “I’m so excited for the opportunity to join forces with passionate entrepreneurs and creative people at The Commons, and to bring something new and exciting to our restaurant landscape. Steamboat supports small businesses in such a cool way and it’s so unique to be able to bring everyone together in one space, for a sort of choose-your-experience kind of place. I can’t wait to work with other business owners to bring
something really special to our friends,
