It’s spring and that means newborn wildlife, both big game and small game.

Here’s Bill de Vergie, the Area Wildlife Manager for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, based out of Meeker. He asks that you leave them alone.

De Vergie says it you see a newborn animal and it has been there for more than a couple of days, give them a call.

Groups of elk have been seen throughout Steamboat. Monday, there was a small group on the hill behind the Arnold Barn by the base of the ski area.

A larger herd was also spotted recently spotted on Anglers Drive. Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Steamboat reminds you to use caution if you see the elk. They will be migrating soon to the higher elevations so be careful as they’ll be crossing highways and country roads. Also, don’t bother them, especially because it is calving season.
