UPDATE: Tuesday, April 26
Cottonwood trees lining Maple Street were removed for the parking lot project. Facilities Director Pascal Ginesta says they were rotting at the roots and they weren’t healthy. These trees were also in danger of falling. During the big storm in fall of 2019, nine cottonwoods fell at the high school and ten fell at Strawberry Park Elementary. Ginesta says mature aspen trees will be planted when the project is complete.
Ginesta went on to explain the parking lot project at Steamboat Springs High School. He said a lot of it is a safety concern with parking, parent drop-off, and the buses.

The remodel of the parking lot at Steamboat Springs High School has started. It will add 65 extra parking spaces with better high school traffic flow and proper infrastructure for drainage. A bus-only loop is being added around the grass front area on Maple Street. And a parent drop-off is being added. The project will be finished in time for the start of school in the fall. Once it’s done, the district will work on landscaping.
