High school students from throughout Northwest Colorado are in Pueblo for the Colorado Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention.

The Soroco FFA from Oak Creek is sending 24 kids, many of whom will compete in leadership competitions.

Kayla Rossi (front row, far left) won two events at districts, so she’s competing and also running for state office, which she says is a dream come true.

“I was inspired by my mom and dad who were past state FFA officers so just being able to have a chance to run at this convention, in person, means a lot to me.”

Rossi will find out if she is a state officer on Thursday.

Moffat County has ten FFA students headed to Pueblo. Maddie Hume will be a senior at Moffat County High School.

“We all just go through things that are important in FFA and how we can come together and unite as one and be progressing in agriculture.”

Peyton Baker is second from the right.

Hayden has 12 FFA students at the state convention. One is upcoming sophomore Peyton Baker.

“Being a new chapter, we haven’t been out to many activities so state convention is the biggest event we’ve been to.”

Carmen Anarella is with the local Soroco chapter out of Oak Creek. She says the fun with the state convention is seeing and interacting with other FFA members from across Colorado.

“We’re all just super elated to go down and to represent Soroco and to see a bunch of other Colorado FFA students and members from around the state and interact and just have a good time in Pueblo.”

Carmen will be a junior at Soroco High School.

The state FFA convention runs through Thursday in Pueblo.
