A fund has been set up through Yampa Valley Community Foundation to help preserve workforce housing. It is called the Routt County Workforce Housing Preservation Fund. It was set up today (Wednesday, Aug. 31).
The fund is specifically in reaction to the recent announcement of the purchase of the land at the White Haven Mobile Home Park in west Steamboat. While residents there may own or rent the 29 mobile homes on the property, the land is owned by someone else and there is a contract to buy that land for over $3 million. Homeowners were given 90 days to come up with the money to buy the land under their mobile homes. They received notice in early August.
This fund could be used to buy the land, if enough money is raised..
If the White Haven property is sold, the money in the fund will be used for the purchase, preservation, or emergency capital improvements of other mobile home parks or low income housing in Routt County.
The Yampa Valley Community Foundation is working with Yampa Valley Housing Authority.
