I-70 traffic was re-routed through Northwest Colorado for most of the day Monday because of a commercial vehicle tractor-trailer accident in Glenwood Canyon. The cab of the truck flipped over the guardrail and then others crashed trying to avoid that accident. Check road conditions at COTrip.org before headed out.
The Steamboat Springs Post Office still doesn’t have a custodian and employees have been doing what they can, when they can. Paula Black says she is a concerned citizen who lives in Steamboat Springs.
“A bunch of us got together and we were having conversations and with everyone I talked to, they said, ‘The post office is a mess and we need to do something.’ And everyone said, ‘Yes, we need to do something.’”
Black asked around and got some friends and Rotarians to clean up the post office on Saturday.
“We’re sweeping, we’re vacuuming, and we’re dusting the window sills, and the heaters where they are not falling apart. We’re taking out the trash and the recycles.”
Black and her friends plan to try to clean up the local post office at least twice a week until a custodian can be hired. They also ask that you take your mail home to sort it and don’t leave it as trash at the post office.

2022 Property Tax notices for Routt County residents are in the mail. You can pay in full by April 30, or in two equal installments, the first of which is due Feb. 28 and the second on June 15. About 30,000 traditional full-page tax notices that include payment coupons and a return envelope have been mailed, including 25,410 real property, 3,737 severed mineral rights, 371 personal property, 476 mobile homes, and 175 state-assessed tax notices. In addition, 848 tax statement notice reminders will be sent to individuals via email who have signed up for electronic notices. Iacovetto said payment of these taxes will produce over $87 million for taxing authorities throughout Routt County.
Moffat County property tax notices are expected to go out sometime this week.
The Brown Ranch Annexation Committee will hold meetings every two weeks starting this Wednesday, Feb. 1. They’re from 9 a.m. to noon in the conference room at Centennial Hall on 10th Street, through June 21. Public comment will be around 11:30 a.m. or you can email your comments to EngageSteamboat.net/annex. The meetings are also on Zoom.
A bill that would boost the agriculture workforce has passed the House Ag, Water, and Natural Resources Committee but a vote of 12-1. The bill would provide financial incentives to farmers, ranchers, and those in the ag business to hire interns that would get hands-on training which would help in a future career in agriculture. Representative Meghan Lukens sponsored the ag bill.
