High winds and extreme weather swept through Northwest Colorado Wednesday and have kept Highway 40 and 318 between Craig and the Utah border still closed today. Highway 318 heads northwest out of Maybell.

Moffat County Sheriff’s office helped rescue about 19 people and three dogs stranded on Highway 318 in snow drifts on Wednesday. They had to use a snowcat. They were taken to the Maybell Community Center and then on to Craig where overnight accommodations were made. Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume expects all owners should be back with their passenger vehicles Thursday afternoon.

Colorado Department of Transportation is working to get Highways 40 and 318 back open. Check CoTrip.org for updates.

Traffic from Craig to Maybell is local traffic only.
