In an update from the Steamboat Springs Post Office…
The mail delivery in Steamboat Springs and Routt County is all caught up. That’s according to the corporate office out of Denver. David Rupert is the manager of USPS Strategic Communications for the region. He says the mail is current and they have people on every route. “It’s taken a lot of work and we have utilized help from Colorado and surrounding states to make it happen. We also have professional staff who will be making the structural changes to help with long-term issues.” Rupert promised to keep us updated on any progress.
Another positive to report is that the Alpenglow Village cluster box is getting serviced very soon, as in the next few days. These are the apartments behind Walgreens in Steamboat Springs. The builders put in a cluster box in the summer of 2020, when residents started to move in. But it hasn’t been serviced by the U.S. Postal Service, despite repeated requests. Residents have had to pay for a P.O. Box at the post office.
Rupert says residents of Alpenglow Village will have to get keys and change their addresses. The carrier for the unit is coming out soon to open up the box unit, label the boxes, and get it ready for delivery. Once that is done, residents will need to change their addresses and they can start getting their mail at the complex. Rupert is expecting this to happen in the next few days.
Rupert writes, “We are currently assigning these addresses to a delivery route along with the necessary mapping and data conversion so the mail can be properly sorted. We hope to initiate delivery to these addresses in the very near future.”
Rupert adds, “We apologize for the misunderstanding regarding delivery to this community and we are diligently working to make it right.”
Steamboat Radio News asked about the status of Steamboat Springs and Routt County residents not having to pay for a P.O. Box if they have no other way to get their mail. Rupert writes, “We are continuing to evaluate the box situation and applicability of the rules for each address. This will take time. Right now the local management and staff have a primary focus — stabilizing the mail and normalizing our service. We will let you know when we have progress on the P.O. Box front.”
There is a Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Steamboat Springs Post Office. It is a multi-location Mountain Towns Hiring Event. Human Resources will be available on site to help with applying.
