It’s all free… Office furniture, file cabinets, fixtures, and Steamboat Springs City Hall history. The building on 10th Street was built in 1961. It is being torn down for a new City Hall and Fire Station. The temporary City Hall is across the street. Anything that wasn’t taken to the new temporary offices is up for grabs. Nonprofits get first dibs on Tuesday, March 14, and then it’s open to the public on Wednesday and Thursday, March 15-16. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. And once again, it’s all free. Just stop on by 10th Street between Lincoln and Oak.
Here’s more from the City of Steamboat Springs; March 6, 2023.
Community Days Share City Hall Furniture & Office Essentials
Plenty Of Good Life Left In Office Items & Price is Right – FREE
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 6, 2023-Are you looking for a piece of office furniture, file cabinets, fixtures or securing a piece of city history, then the upcoming Community Days is perfect for local organizations and community members.
“We’re applying sustainability across the project and working to ensure as much of the materials from the old city hall remain out of the landfill,” said Deputy City Manager Tom Leeson. “Organizations and the public have the opportunity to secure some great office items absolutely free.”
City staff and many municipal services have transitioned to the temporary City Hall across the street in Centennial Hall including all office furniture that will continue to be used. Everything else is being given away for free to the community over three days next week. (March 14-16)
Are you looking for that perfect two- or three-hole paper punch? You can find the ideal version as a variety of makes and models will be on display, and you can even test drive to find the perfect one! In fact, everything from office supplies like 3-ring binders and hole punchers to furniture including credenzas and file cabinets and all sorts in between will be up for the taking.
Non-profits will have first crack at securing office items from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, on March 14. Then on the following two days, the general public will be able to peruse office fixtures in the old city hall. Items are expected to move fast so individuals should be ready to haul items away immediately as the city will not be able to hold items.
Much of the building, built in 1961, contains asbestos specifically in weight bearing walls, flooring, caulking around windows, and window framing panels. and requires specific abatement. However, if there is an interest in other building fittings such as office doors, bathroom fixtures and other non-contaminated materials, a facilities representative will be on hand to discuss details and options.
“There is still plenty of good life in the equipment being offered even though it may have outlived its use for the city,” said Facilities Manager Eric Friese. “We would really like others to take advantage of these things and keep them from being disposed of. Besides the price can’t be beat!”
The temporary City Hall is being established across the street in the foyer of Centennial Hall (124 10th Street). Upon entering the building, the front desk will greet citizens. Centennial Hall will house the City & Deputy City Manager offices, Finance, Planning, Human Resources as well as temporary office spaces for remote employees. City Clerk and Facilities will be in the adjacent Elkins House. The secure drop box will be relocated outside Centennial Hall.
