The Steamboat Springs High School Girls Golf team is doing their best to get ready for the season, despite a heavy winter of snow. It’s the first year for Head Golf Coach Andrew Donner after coaching the boys golf team for 10 years. He says he’s known these girls for years from when he was Director of Instruction at Haymaker Golf Course.
“I have actually worked with a lot of these girls when they were six, seven, eight, nine, 10 years old, so it’s kind of cool to see them now getting into high school and taking it a little more serious and they can swing and they’re athletic, so it’s going to be fun. It’s exciting.”
He says it’s a young class with seven freshmen and no seniors. They have a practice area at the high school but have been hoping to get out to the local courses when weather permits. The next tournament for the girls golf team is March 28 at Gypsum Creek, hosted by Eagle Valley High School.
