The heavy snow Wednesday caused problems throughout Northwest Colorado.
There were two power outages in Craig. Yampa Valley Electric reports that a roof blew off a building a damaged some of their equipment, which caused an outage. Power was restored within an hour. A second outage last night affected 750 members.

Highway 40 closed in a couple of spots Wednesday. Just before 5 p.m. last night, several large boulders rolled into the highway near Mount Harris Canyon. That’s between Milner and Hayden. Colorado State Patrol says a front-end loader had to come in and help with removal. A CDOT plow also helped. No one was hurt.

Wednesday’s heavy wet snow shut down Highway 40 north of Kremmling for part of the day. Colorado State Patrol says there were a lot of “slide offs” along the highway, including a semi truck, that they had to clear.
Two flights in and out of Yampa Valley Regional Airport were also canceled.
If you are going into the back country, check avalanche conditions. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center rates Steamboat Springs and much of Routt County as considerable today.
Also be aware of tree wells. Don’t ski or ride too close to trees in deep or windblown snow conditions.
Steamboat Resort has broken 400” of snow with a report of 401.5” of snow today. The snowiest season recorded in Steamboat was in 2007-08 with 489 inches of snow.
Colorado’s statewide snowpack is well above average. It’s at 105% of its 30-year average peak, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The new flight simulator at the Steamboat Springs Airport (FBO) debuts today. Current or future pilots can try the flight simulator at an Open House, which is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at 3499 Airport Circle in west Steamboat Springs.
