Potholes are prevalent throughout Northwest Colorado, for some drivers, they’re causing flat tires and broken rims on cars. It’s that bad. And the snowy weather is to blame. Trevor Campbell is the Road & Bridge Director for the City of Craig.
The bad weather has definitely wreaked havoc on our streets this year. It’s the worst that I’ve seen. And this winter just won’t quit.”
Campbell says his crew has been filling the potholes in Craig for the past three weeks, but then when another storm comes, the cold patch pops back out because of the freeze-thaw. It’s a temporary fix that won’t be permanent until a hot patch can be put in this summer.

Campbell says if the Road & Bridge crew isn’t filling potholes, they’re clearing the streets of snow.
“I’m so tired of it. You know, the guys are exhausted. They get up at 3:30 to go out and start plowing at 4 a.m. and they’ve done that all winter long. If the crew has not been in a snow plow, they’ve been out in loaders and dump trucks, moving snow or patching potholes, all winter long, every single day.”
These potholes are on Hwy 40 in west Steamboat Springs.
The weekly Routt County newsletter says the county has been hearing from citizens about plenty of potholes and problem spots. Road and Bridge crews are checking the roads daily and waiting until the weather cooperates for the permanent pothole patches to be applied.
