Video of a March 31 officer-involved shooting in Craig has been released by the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team. It involved an officer with Craig Police and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Department. 52-year-old Christopher Rothermund of Craig was shot by police and died. The video says an investigation into the shooting is being done by the Steamboat Springs Police Department on behalf of the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team. Viewer discretion is advised if you watch the video. Youtube Link

A 49-year-old man from Castle Rock pleaded guilty in Moffat County District Court Wednesday. Shane Reeves entered a guilty plea to felony theft and misdemeanor tax evasion. It had to do with his involvement with oil and gas wells in Moffat County between 2017 and 2021, under the name of Wolverine Resources. A press release from the District Attorney’s office in the 14th Judicial District said Reeves didn’t pay royalties to the mineral rights holders, he didn’t pay workers, and he didn’t file state income tax for three years. Reeves owes about half a million dollars in restitution. He was sentenced to four years of supervised probation at which point he has to pay that money back, show his records to probation officers at any time, and limit his involvement in the oil and gas industry.

The Steamboat Springs Police Department promoted some of their officers and also announced new hires in the police department Wednesday evening.

  • Adrian Najera – new hire as Community Service Officer
  • Laura Nieslanik – Records Technician

One is Adrian Najera who is a new Community Service Officer for Steamboat Springs. Najera is a 2022 graduate of Moffat County High School in Craig.
