The first Northwest Colorado Energy Summit brought experts in the energy field to Craig for a two-day gathering.
Former Moffat County Commissioner Ray Beck says the mission of the summit is to advocate, communicate, and educate (ACE) about options for energy.
“We’re informing and educating the public, elected officials both on the state side and the local side, industry leaders, community leaders, business leaders, and so on and so forth. (We’re) planting seeds of opportunity, because now is the time.”
The power plants and coal mines in Moffat County and in Colorado have been mandated to shut down.
Former U.S. Secretary of the Interior, David Bernhard, was a speaker.
United States Representative for Colorado District 3, Lauren Boebert, came by the Energy Summit Saturday afternoon.
Her opponent in the most recent election, Adam Frisch, attended both days of the summit.

NORTHWEST COLORADO ENERGY SUMMIT RECEIVES MORE SUPPORT
The Water Department for the City of Craig is starting their annual flushing of fire hydrants today. It’s happening on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Craig for the next six weeks. You might see some discoloration, cloudiness, or low pressure but it won’t be for long.
Aerial spraying for mosquitoes in the Town of Hayden starts tonight, after 8 p.m. The sprayings are always contingent upon wind and weather conditions. If there are weather delays, the next scheduled dates will be June 6-7.Call Town Hall for more information at 970-276-3741.
LiftUp’s Rocket Pack Summer Lunch Program starts today. This is for school-aged kids in Routt County. You can pick up a week’s worth of food on Tuesday mornings in Oak Creek or Tuesday afternoons in Steamboat Springs. Reach out to the LiftUp Food Bank to see if you qualify, at liftuprc.org or call 970-870-8804.
The feeding program for the Moffat County School District provides one free breakfast or lunch per day, for kids ages one to 18. That’s Monday through Friday at the Boys & Girls Club in Craig. Sandrock Elementary also has meals in the cafeteria and grab-and-go meals available. Look for the flyer with details on our website or through the school district.
Twenty-five Soroco FFA students are headed to Pueblo this week for the Colorado State FFA Agricultural Education Convention. Carmen Anarella is the Vice President of the Soroco FFA Chapter in Oak Creek.
“We come from a small town in Northwest Colorado so it’s huge that we have so much representation at the state contest. But we’re just incredibly blessed that we have the program that we have and the resources that we have to be so successful.”
Anarella is also the president of the Northwest Colorado Chapter of FFA.
The Soroco FFA Chapter is also being recognized for having a state FFA officer. Kayla Rossi serves as treasurer on the state FFA board. This is her last week in office.

In results from the Steamboat Marathon on Sunday… Zachary Alhamra from Murray Utah, won with Mark Myers of Steamboat finishing second. Steamboat’s Steven Boyton won the Half marathon. Sumner Cotton also of Steamboat Springs won the 10K. Tucker Creger of Iowa was second, and Xavier Knott of Steamboat finished third.

Kodi Ingols from Hayden High School was named Most Valuable Player in Friday’s 8-Man Colorado All-State Football game. The team with three Hayden players won the game, 18-10. The other two were Brayden Dale and Wesley Gioia.
The Steamboat Boys Lacrosse team has received statewide honors. First… Head Coach Brian Rodgers is the 4A Western Slope Coach of the Year.
