Today is the year anniversary of the death of Lacey Lewis. The 25-year-old Steamboat Springs resident was hit by a car and killed in Douglas County one year ago Friday, June 16. Her brother, Guerin Lewis, is releasing a song today called, “When a Cowgirl goes to Heaven.”
The Lewis family has written a statement on the year anniversary of her passing, honoring her life.
“There is an unmistakable hole in our family and in our hearts without our Lacey. But with our grief comes a mountain of gratitude for the moments we had with her, for the incredible young woman she was and for the community that lifts us up. We continue to see and feel her impact in the little mountain town that raised her and far beyond it. Thank you for sharing in our sorrow over the last year and reminding us of how blessed we are.”

The U.S. Forest Service is proposing an increase in recreation site fees in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. It’s to help operate, maintain, and improve the local sites. The new and increased fees are being proposed for 93 site locations. Here’s an example. It would now cost $5 to park at the Dry Lake, Rabbit Ears, or Mad Creek Trailhead. The fee for the Dry Lake Campground would go up from $10 per night, to $26 per night. There are open houses to hear from the public. We have the list and details on how to make an online comment on our website.
