Smoke blowing into the Yampa Valley could be from the Spring Creek Fire. It’s burning near Parachute. The Oak Creek Fire Rescue Wildland Team says on their Facebook page that they have sent three engines and 13 crew members to help with the Spring Creek Fire. Residents of Garfield County, and also Routt and Moffat counties are reminded to sign up for your county’s Emergency Notification System.

The Moffat County School District Board of Education met this week. The district discussed the most urgent projects that need funding, including repairs or a new roof at Sandrock Elementary, asphalt work at Ridgeview Elementary, Craig Middle School, and Moffat County High School, repairs at the baseball field where the Bulldogs play, and the gym floor at the high school also needs to be redone. But for that to happen, the bleachers have to be removed, and they can’t be reinstalled. So it would be a new gym floor and new bleachers. The project is out to bid. Also at Monday’s meeting, school district staff gets a 4% across-the-board pay increase. Bulldog Academy is being created. And open enrollment and preschool enrollment begins July 1 for Moffat County Schools, at MoffatSD.org

Seven care team members for Casey’s Pond Senior Living Community are no longer working for Casey’s Pond. Spokesperson Pam Sullivan says it happened recently. She said two left for personal reasons. Others are no longer working there because she says they did not meet the Standards of Service for Casey’s Pond. They were traveling agency personnel. Sullivan says the care and services at Casey’s Pond is not being impacted. She says they are “engaging with other traveling agency care partners to meet our standard of care.” Sullivan adds, “Casey’s Pond takes our responsibility seriously in providing care and services to older adults with respect, compassion, and love.”

The City of Steamboat Springs is hosting a Community Open House. It’s with students from the CU Denver Planning Studio. Remember the big, fire-breathing dragon that was in so many Steamboat parades? The last time we saw it was 2018. The dragon was spotted being pulled by a truck down Lincoln Avenue Tuesday. We asked at the stoplight if the huge dragon will be in the 4th of July Parade next Tuesday and the answer was yes.

Check out what’s happening in the Yampa Valley on the Community Calendar on our website.
