“The housing authority will still be involved in a very meaningful way on the design, maintaining the vision, maintaining the affordability, bringing in community partnerships, bringing in community resources to deliver the types of neighborhoods that we have envisioned. They’re the ones who are going to help us make it happen.”

The Michaels Organization is the nation’s largest privately-held owner of affordable housing with 50 years of experience working in over 39 states and with $11 billion of assets under management. They start work today.

Steamboat Ski Resort has hired Sarah Horen as the new Risk & Safety Director for the ski area. She’ll oversee developing, implementing and updating all safety programs for employees and guests at the resort and at the Steamboat Grand Hotel.

Most recently Horen was the Health & Safety Director at Snowbasin Resort in Utah and Managing Member & Environmental Engineer at LockCycle LLC a company developed from passion for sustainability, carbon output reduction, the outdoors, health and wellbeing and biking.  She has experience in remediation and environmental protections through her work as Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for Handy LLC in western Colorado, where she coordinated with Federal entities and OSHA for EPA and standards compliance. Previously, Horen was the Risk & Safety coordinate at Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation where she helped create a safety-minded culture and standards of practice throughout the resort operations, playing a key role in developing and implementing the resort’s COVID compliance policies and operation plans.

“To combine my passions for safety management, environmental stewardship and the outdoors, in a community that I love is a dream come true,” said Horen. “I’m excited to build upon the already well-established Risk & Safety program at Steamboat based on my previous experience and established relationships at the resort, in the community and in the industry.”

Horen is an avid skier, a PSIA certified instructor and has participated in Ski Girls Rock- lessons empowering young ladies through athletics. An equally passionate mountain biker, Horen is excited to get back to the trails in Steamboat. She will relocate to the Yampa Valley this month with her dog Buster.

There were 206 cases in Colorado last year and 20 people died. Limit outdoor activity at dusk and dawn when mosquitos are more active, and use insect repellent.
