The Hahns Peak Vertical Trail Race was Sunday in North Routt County. 110 racers ran eight miles, with four miles of that climbing 2,220 feet in elevation to the top of Hahns Peak and the fire lookout tower. It’s an elevation of 10,839 feet with 360-degree views. The final push to the summit is a slippery scree field.
Kory Skattum of Broomfield won for the men, but Steamboat Springs men rounded out the top ten, including Mark Myers, Matt Kempton, Casey Wolf, Niklas Malacinski, Josh Smullin, Olin Webster, Tristan Thrasher, Tony Cesolini, and Ethan Barbier.
The top female finisher at 12th overall was 18-year-old Autumn Oslowski with Ginger Johnston in 2nd, and 12-year-old Georgia Bishop in third, all from Steamboat Springs.
Top females ages 17 and under are: Georgia Bishop, Kai McKinnon, Grace Olexa, and Norah Graham, all from Steamboat Springs.
Top three male finishers ages 17 and under are: Tristan Thrasher and Xavier Knott from Steamboat and Owen Gifford from Craig.
The Hahns Peak Vertical Trail Race is a benefit for the Track & Field and Cross-Country teams at Steamboat Springs High School. And it’s part of the Steamboat Springs Running Series.
