According to ESPN Senior NFL Reporter Adam Schefter, an MRI on Tuesday has confirmed that Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the fourth play of his career with the NY Jets on Monday, officially ending his season. Schefter also hinted at the fact that this could be the end of the future Hall-of-Famer’s NFL career.

The 39-year-old Rodgers threw just one pass for the Jets on Monday night (out of bounds to avoid a sack) before being injured. The injury occurred on just the fourth play of the Jets’ opening drive against the Buffalo Bills, when the QB was sacked by Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd. Despite efforts to get back on his feet, Rodgers sat back on the turf before being helped off the field, jumping on the back of a cart and taken back to the locker room for further observation. Rodgers was replaced in the game by Zach Wilson, who took over backup duties when the Jets traded for Rodgers in the offseason. The Jets were able to pull off a dramatic 22-16 overtime victory.

Early reports indicated that initial x-rays on Rodgers came back negative, but further testing on Tuesday morning showed that he had torn his Achilles. Jets head coach Robert Saleh said was prepared for ‘worst-case-scenario’ news about Rodgers after the game: “MRI’s probably going to confirm what we think. So prayers tonight but it’s not good .. Personally, I don’t hurt for me, I don’t hurt for our locker room. I hurt for Aaron and how much he’s invested in all of this.”

The Jets said in a statement Tuesday: “Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you’ve made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward. Get well soon, @AaronRodgers12.“
