Some ambassadors are needed to help neighborhoods learn about recycling. The Recycling Ambassador group with the City of Steamboat Springs is hoping to get some volunteers to talk to neighbors about recycling in multi-family housing complexes. There is a training session from 11:30-12:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall, on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Find out more at SteamboatSprings.net/Recycling.
The City of Steamboat Springs passed a mandatory recycling requirement in February. This requires all businesses and multi-family complexes to have a recycling capacity of at least 50% of trash service capacity.

Ambassadors Focus On Multifamily Complexes To Help Spur Change
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 28, 2023-The city is looking to bestow the title of ambassador on several community members who will serve as neighborhood recycling envoys for educating and encouraging positive recycling practices in multifamily housing complexes.
“The city has a goal to divert 85% of our waste stream through composting and recycling by 2050, with an interim goal of 46% by 2030,” commented Community Recycling Coordinator Alicia Archibald. “By engaging passionate volunteers in their own neighborhoods, we will educate residents on recycling best practices to increase recycling collection rates and decrease contamination within our multifamily housing complexes.”
With the first Recycling Ambassador group already working in a few complexes, the city is seeking additional volunteers to help Spur Change in their community through recycling and waste reduction. As an ambassador, volunteers lead by example in their multifamily housing complexes, by educating neighbors about recycling and other waste reduction strategies.
Recycling Ambassadors assist with the following education and outreach in their complex:
- Educate neighbors on proper recycling habits and general waste reduction.
- Engage fellow residents through education and recycling initiatives within each complex.
- Provide information about the recycled materials accepted by local waste collection services.
The next training session for new ambassadors will be on October 17, 2023, from 11:30am to 12:30pm in Centennial Hal (124 10th Street). Individuals interested in attending, are encouraged to sign up online in advance. Need additional information or want to submit an application to join the team, then check out the dedicated Recycling Ambassador webpage.
So, you’re already recycling, but have you thought about expanding your efforts to include composting? Composting is a simple action you can take to reduce greenhouse gasses, support climate action, and reduce your carbon footprint. Pick up a free kitchen compost pail to go along with signing up for composting services from the city’s local community partner – Cowgirl Compost CO.
