A fire has been burning all weekend in Moffat County. It has been named the Iron Fire and it is about 18 miles northwest of Craig. The fire has burned over 7,300 acres as of Sunday afternoon, mostly grass and sagebrush. The Bureau of Land Management is sending updates. They had 45 firefighters at the scene with engines and heavy equipment trying to create fire lines on Sunday. They will stay until the fire is 100% contained. No evacuations. We are updating the fire on our website.

The 14th Judicial District and the new Moffat County Courthouse has been officially dedicated in Craig. This is the courthouse side of the building, which was renovated from an old box store that had closed. Chief District Judge Michael O’Hara says the courthouse building is an example of what communities should do, by repurposing old buildings.

“I am happy that this will be a building that lasts for the ages, and it will be a place that all of Moffat County and the State of Colorado can be proud of for a very long time.”

The project was on time, under budget, and paid for without raising any taxes for the citizens of Moffat County.

The road up to the Sunlight neighborhood in Steamboat Springs will be closed for the next four to six weeks because of some slope failures along Sunlight Drive. Native Excavating will be doing work to repair the slope and reconstruct the sidewalk.

SUNLIGHT SLOPE IS SLIPPING

Watch for some closures along Lincoln Ave., in downtown Steamboat Springs, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Holidays lights will be going up. On Tuesday, the right-hand and parking lane of eastbound Lincoln will be closed starting at 6 a.m., while workers put up lights from 12th to 3rd. On Wednesday, it’s the same thing but headed west on Hwy 40.

The big new blue Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club bus has arrived at Howelsen Hill. The 77-passenger bus is to be used for getting kids from school to Howelsen Hill for training, starting Oct. 9. Here’s John Nolting with the club.

“This really helps the club with our goals for accessibility, allowing kids in the community who have a hard time accessing our programs, now make that trip from schools to Howelsen Hill, really helps us reach our mission of being a community club accessible to everybody.”

The bus still needs a name, and a bus driver. The bus was made possible with a grant from the Lennox Foundation, and the support of George and Barbara Eidsness.
