Two Coal Transition Community grants have been awarded to the communities of Meeker and Yampa. Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker will receive a $600,000 grant for a new electronic medical health record system. The town of Yampa will receive a grant of $105,000 for a business support program, and especially improvements to Montgomery’s General Store and the Yampa Garage Eatery. Also, the money will be used to add signage to attract more visitors to Yampa. The grants were announced from Governor Polis’ office and the office of Just Transition.
MEEKER AND YAMPA TO RECEIVE GRANT MONEY

Craig Police Chief Michael Cochran has been honored with the Law Enforcement Recognition Award from the Colorado Association of Police Chiefs. Chief Cochran was recognized at the recent Craig City Council meeting by Craig Mayor Derek Duran and City Manager Peter Brixius.
Rich Brown has received the permanent assignment of Police Commander with the Steamboat Springs Police Department. He had been serving as interim since February, and has been a sworn officer in Steamboat Springs for 28 years.
Jamie Malone has been promoted to Administrative Services Manager for the Steamboat Springs Police Department.

The Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team has qualified 23 athletes for the state championships, Oct. 21-22, in Glenwood Springs. The team just placed first again in Division 2, at a competition in Eagle. The local team had eight podium finishes, with Mary McLarnon and Eva Minotto placing 1st and 2nd in Varsity, for the fourth time out of four races in the series.
Whitney Warnke also finished first for freshmen girls.

Events this weekend…
The annual Coat Drive for LiftUp is Saturday, Oct. 14. Dropoff your lightly worn coats between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, in the Natural Grocers parking lot. The Group Real Estate Office organizes this, and then the coats are distributed to those who need them, through LiftUp of Routt County.
Ski Haus in Steamboat Springs hosts their annual Chili Cookoff and Pie Bake Off with big prizes. That starts Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. It’s a benefit for Yampatika. The Ski Haus Super Sale is today through Sunday.
Bulldog Hockey with the Craig Youth Hockey Association is having a Gear Swap. It’s from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Moffat County Ice Arena at Loudy-Simpson Park on Saturday, Oct. 14. Have some fun, meet some friends, and get geared up for the season.
The Steamboat Stampede U19 Girls Team has a big hockey game on Saturday, for Breast Cancer Awareness. They’re playing the Cherry Creek High School girls team at 4:45 at Howelsen Ice Arena. They have special jerseys for the game, too. All are invited.

Bring your pets to a FREE Veterinary Care Clinic. It’s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at Cook Subaru, 1955 Curve Court. Services include free vaccinations, microchips, and communicable disease screening to the first 100 community pets. They’ll be seen on a first come, first served basis. This is open to all Northwest Colorado residents. It is brought to you by Cook Subaru and the Routt County Humane Society.
Yampa Valley Pride is presenting the movie, “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” at Snow Bowl Steamboat on Saturday night. This is the 50th anniversary of the cult classic. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $10. It is recommended for ages 16 and older.
