Rob Perlman Promoted to Executive Vice President Regional Operations for Alterra Mountain Company

Dave Hunter to Serve as Interim Resort Lead for Winter 23/24

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO- November 16, 2023– Alterra Mountain Company has promoted Steamboat Ski Resort president & COO Rob Perlman to Executive Vice President (EVP) Regional Operations for Alterra Mountain Company. Perlman will oversee seven resorts in the Alterra portfolio including Steamboat, Deer Valley, Winter Park, Solitude, Stratton, Snowshoe and Sugarbush and will serve on Alterra’s Executive Leadership Team. Perlman will transition into his new role effective immediately while the resort proceeds through the search for his successor. Until a new president is named, Steamboat Vice President of Operations Dave Hunter will serve as interim Resort Lead overseeing the day-to-day business operations of the resort.

“It is an honor to grow with the company and have the opportunity to share my industry knowledge and experience through a wider platform,” said Perlman. “There are so many exciting projects on the horizon at the resorts in Colorado, Utah and on the East Coast and I’m looking forward to partnering with the resorts to help their future visions come to life. The teams on the ground in each of these resorts is the best in the business and I appreciate Alterra’s foresight to provide a connected and collaborative approach to success.”

Perlman is joined in the newly appointed EVP role at Alterra Mountain Company by Ron Cohen of Mammoth Mountain who will oversee Alterra’s destinations in California, Washington, Idaho and Canada. Both EVPs will report to Mark Brownlie, Chief Operating Officer for Alterra Mountain Company.

The new EVPs are responsible for managing resort Presidents in their respective regions to deliver on each resort’s brand promise to employees, guests, local communities, the planet and shareholders. Having Executive Vice Presidents to oversee operations will optimize communication within their respective regions and to Alterra leadership. The EVPs will participate in enterprise business planning and will lead their region in strategic planning to help organize, prioritize and achieve Alterra’s business goals.

Steamboat will remain Perlman’s home community, while he will spend time in each resort town he oversees to provide dedicated leadership. He will stay on as a board member for the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, Strings Music Festival, Yampa River Fund, Yampa Valley Bank and continue to serve as chairperson of Colorado Ski Country USA.

“Erin and I couldn’t imagine leaving Steamboat,” said Perlman. “Staying committed to the organizations that have invited me to participate in their missions is personally important. I’m grateful for this opportunity to continue to grow my career while staying in the community that has been so supportive of us through our family’s growth.”

While Rob’s transition from the president role at Steamboat provides an opportunity for new leadership at the resort, the organization does not expect any interruption in the day-to-day operations, the proposed Full Steam Ahead projects or the industry leading customer experience Steamboat is known for. Dave Hunter will serve as interim Resort Lead guiding the resort’s day-to-day operations and staying focused on FY24 strategic goals.

“Our mission, vision and values remain the same during this transition,” said Dave Hunter, interim resort leader. “Our focus is on supporting our teams to provide an incredible winter for our staff, guests and community. The Steamboat Senior Leadership Team is tops in our industry and we’ll continue to lead as we always have with an eye on bringing out the best in our teams to be the friendliest, most welcoming mountain destination in the world.”

Hunter is a 30+ year veteran in the ski industry, joining the Steamboat team in 2017 as VP of Operations. Prior to Steamboat, Hunter was the Director of North American sales for snowcat manufacturer Prinoth and the former director of operations at Eldora Mountain Resort. Hunter has been a part of the ski industry his entire life, growing up on the slopes of Mt. Tom Ski Area in Holyoke, Massachusetts where he began his career.

In addition to Perlman’s transition the resort is proud to announce the promotion of Corey Peterson to Vice President of Engineering, Maintenance and Facilities. Peterson was most recently Director of Mountain Operations at Steamboat and oversaw the resort’s grooming and snowmaking operations. During the 23/24 Winter Season, while the resort searches for a new president, Peterson in his new role will also oversee Lift Maintenance, Slope Maintenance, Lift Operations and Ski Patrol in order for Dave Hunter to focus on interim Resort Lead duties.

“Corey has been a pivotal part of the resort’s success in so many areas,” said Hunter. “From overseeing the operations of successful events such as the Big Air to guiding the on-mountain Full Steam Ahead efforts. He is a proven leader in our organization and his wide breadth of industry, Steamboat and community knowledge will serve our leadership team and our resort well as we move into a new era.”

Information on Peterson’s experience and background is available here. More information on the Steamboat Ski Resort’s search for a President will be shared when available.
