Local communities kicked off the holiday season with happy, but very chilly, celebrations over the weekend.
The Parade of Lights in Craig wound down Yampa Ave., and onto Victory Way with many vehicles and floats and lots of 4-wheelers decorated in holiday lights. More pictures are on the KRAI & 55 Country Facebook page.
The Festival of Trees is also now on display at the Craig Chamber of Commerce building through Dec. 9. Stop by and vote on your favorite or bid to purchase. More pictures are on the KRAI & 55 Country Facebook page.
The Hayden Tree Lighting was Saturday night with warm fires and hot cocoa to celebrate the lighting of the tree at 4th and Jefferson. More pictures are on the Steamboat Radio Facebook page.
And Steamboat Springs also celebrating the lighting of the trees on the courthouse lawn heading into the weekend.
Saturday was the Season Launch party for Steamboat Resort. Dave Hunter and Rob Perlman also presented a check for $50,000 to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, which was accepted by Executive Director Brian Krill.
“I truly appreciate the support from Steamboat Ski Resort. It really allows us to make sure that the normal kid here in Steamboat can still pursue their dreams.”
Over the past five years, Steamboat Resort has donated $2.5 million in cash and kind to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. The donation provides financial support for local children participating in club programs and helps kids of all backgrounds to get outside and on the snow.

The Routt County Commissioners are attending the CCI Winter Conference Monday through Wednesday. That’s Colorado Counties, Inc. Tony Bohrer from Moffat County is also attending. The conference is in Westminster in Jefferson County.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets Tuesday morning. Bohrer will join via zoom since he is at the Colorado Counties conference. Agenda items include Candace Miller from Planning & Zoning and Stacy Morgan from the Clerk & Recorder’s office. Staff reports include Jeff Comstock from Natural Resources and Neil Binder on a bid recommendation for a concrete walking path in Loudy-Simpson Park.
Aaron Namura has spent a lot of time behind the wheel of a bus… at least 40,000 hours. That’s more than any other driver. The Steamboat Springs Transit bus driver has been driving a city bus since 2003.
“I just kind of moved to Steamboat from Summit County and decided to drive a bus and it turns out perfect because I ski and snowboard over 100 days per season. So it works perfectly. I like who I work with, working with the city. It’s the only full-time job I’ve ever had and the only one I’ll ever need.”
Namura has no plans of stopping driving a city bus. He says each loop is different and he enjoys the people he meets who are riding the bus.
The Winter Bus Schedule is in effect in Steamboat Springs now.
