Steamboat Springs Transit carried its one millionth passenger for this year on Thursday afternoon. His name is Pauli, and he got a nice goodie bag for the honor. This is the 14th time the million milestone mark has been passed in the city of Steamboat Springs. Steamboat Springs Transit expects another 100,000 passengers before the end of the year.

SST Welcomes One Millionth Passenger

14th Time Steamboat Springs Transit Surpasses Million Milestone Mark

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-November 30, 2023-Getting our family to events on time takes a ton of effort and planning; however, when you move a million passengers in a year like Steamboat Springs Transit (SST), it also takes a great staff, dedicated drivers and a fleet of buses that can operate in all conditions. This afternoon, SST carried its one millionth passenger for 2023.

“This is a major milestone all of us at SST take great pride in,” said Transit Manager Jonathan Flint. “We operate one of the most efficient rural transportation systems in the state and want to thank everyone who has taken advantage of the free bus and regional system this year.”

Just after 2 p.m. today, SST carried its one millionth passenger for the 2023 calendar year. SST Driver Doc Denton’s mountain bound bus welcomed Pauli aboard as the millionth passenger at the Lincoln & 7th Street bus stop. SST’s Sam DeKam provided a celebratory gift bag full of SST merchandize to Pauli. This makes the 14th time that SST has surpassed this major milestone. With COVID-19 and associated cost and passenger reductions, SST last achieved this level in 2019.

SST anticipates carrying another 100,000 passengers during December and then over the winter, between 600,000 to 700,000 passengers, are expected to take advantage of this free transportation service.

“With winter flights landing and the holidays on the horizon, we’re moving into overdrive and won’t have a lot of time to savor this accomplishment,” continued Flint. “The holiday season is one of our busier times and is immediately followed in the New Year by WinterWonderGrass, which set our record single day several years ago. So, we’re focused on delivering an exceptional experience as we close out the year and head into 2024.”

Winter Operations provides convenient options across eight routes serving Steamboat Springs from the west side to the mountain village from late November to mid-April. The Regional System runs three daily departures in the winter between Steamboat Springs and Craig. In fact, the regional system surpassed its record ridership on November 24, moving past the old mark of 41,920 set last in 2022. The record will continue to climb with five weeks left in the year.

SST logs more than 620,000 annual road miles from a pool of 40 full-time and seasonal drivers. SST utilizes 15 transit buses, four regional buses and one curb-to-curb paratransit shuttle to provide service to residents and guests.
