Dear Steamboat Springs School District Community,
In consideration of the safety of our students and staff, all schools within the Steamboat Springs School District will be closed on Thursday, January 18. This includes Soda Creek Elementary, Strawberry Park Elementary, Sleeping Giant School, Steamboat Springs Middle School, Steamboat Springs High School, and Yampa Valley High School. North Routt Community Charter School will contact their families with any updates to their operations.
The well-being of our students and staff is our foremost priority, and we believe this decision is essential to ensuring everyone’s safety due to hazardous road conditions in our area. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand this is a rare occurrence for our school district. We appreciate your understanding. Please be safe. We will post any further updates on the school district website and social media channels (Facebook and Instagram).
Sincerely,
Dr. Celine Wicks, Superintendent

Colorado Mountain College — Steamboat Springs campus. There will not be an in-person classes but virtual classes will still be held.

From CMC-Steamboat Campus Dean JC Norling:

Good evening Steamboat Campus,

In an unprecedented situation Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD) is closing the schools on Thursday, January 18.

To be in sync with SSSD, CMC Steamboat Campus will be closed as well, Thursday, January 18th.

I understand a campus closure is complicated, but after discussion with SSSD, campus leaders, and with Matt Gianneschi this seem like the prudent thing to do.

Here is the list of items that pertain to academic and student services, facilities, and food service.

  • In person classes at the campus will be cancelled
  • Remote real time classes will be held as planned
  • Staff are encouraged to work remotely, or may choose to go into their office
  • If you have any questions please work directly with your supervisor
  • Sodexo should plan on serving meals to students
  • The buildings will be open and locked on regular hours so students can access food service
  • Facilities will need to ensure proper snow removal
  • All scheduled events, such as, club fair will be cancelled
  • All community use will be cancelled
  • I will send a RAVE Alert that goes to all faculty, staff, and students.

Enjoy the snow!

Hayden School District has canceled classes for Thursday.

Dear Hayden Tiger Community,
With student and staff safety being our highest priority, and with the Winter Weather Advisory that is in effect through 5 p.m. tomorrow predicting to bring additional snow, wind, and ice that will negatively impact road conditions, Hayden School District will be closed on Thursday, January 18th. This includes all daytime school activities, after-school clubs, and athletic practices. I realize that this is rare for Hayden School District, and I appreciate your understanding that this decision is being made with student and staff safety squarely in mind. Please be safe tomorrow!
