And the winner is… 10-year-old Kai Riegler on the Freestyle Development Team with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
Kai is the winner of the button contest for the 111th Steamboat Spring Winter Carnival coming up Feb. 7-11. This year’s theme is “Snowplace Like Home,” and the button design he drew shows the Howelsen Lodge Building with fireworks behind it. Kai’s design was chosen out of 45 artwork entries from throughout the community. Winter Carnival buttons go on sale at communities throughout town, starting this Thursday.

111th Winter Carnival Button Contest Winner Revealed
SSWSC Devo Freeski Team Athlete Kai Riegler Wins the 2024 Contest
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has announced that ten-year-old Kai Riegler, SSWSC Devo Freeski team athlete, is the winner of the button contest for the 111th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival. The 111th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival will take place February 7-11, 2024. In October, young artists 18 years old and under were invited to submit button art for this year’s Winter Carnival theme – Snowplace Like Home. Kai was selected from 45 artwork entries. When asked about his design submission, Kai said, “The inspiration behind my design is that it shows Saturday night at Howelsen, which is my favorite part of Winter Carnival. The main part of the design is the Howelsen Lodge building because it reminds me of our home, Steamboat Springs.”
A 2024 $15 Winter Carnival button is required for entry/spectating at all events; there are no buffs or neck gaiters this year. Plus, a 2024 Winter Carnival Button offers access to free skiing and riding from February 7-11 at Howelsen Hill. Skiing is always FREE at Howelsen Hill on Sundays. The button must be presented to the ticket office to receive a ticket. Some Winter Carnival events required additional tickets and registration.
