Heavy snow and more winter weather is back. Yampa Valley Electric Association also says to watch for heavy winds starting tonight. Call it in if you are without power or internet. Crews and contractors are on stand-by, ready to respond to any outages caused by this next storm. There is an Outage Center on the YVEA website so you can see where those outages are. They will also be updating their Facebook page.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has issued avalanche warnings across Colorado mountain ranges, including the Flat Tops. The forecast warns of “very dangerous avalanche conditions,” through Friday morning
The State of the Community event for Moffat County was Wednesday night. Those honored include:
- Business of the Year is Lewis and Lorrae Moon with Yampa Valley Fiberworks
- Best Customer Service is Kevin & Tammy Villard with Moffat Mercantile
- Changemaker is Rebekah Greenwood with the Economic Development Senior Social Center
- Chamber’s Special Recognition is Open Heart Advocates, which is now Advocates Crisis Trauma Support Services
- Youth Volunteer of the Year is Megan Neton
The Moffat County Commissioners have a workshop today with Tri-State and Xcel regarding the proposed water bill introduction.
The board for the Local Marketing District in Moffat County meets at 4 p.m. this afternoon in the Commissioners Chambers.
Routt County Riders has received a grant for $185,000 from the Colorado Energy Office. It’s to help low-income locals in Routt and Moffat counties get an electric bike free of charge. Fifty will be given out. Local non-profits will help determine who gets one.

Wednesday night was Opening Ceremonies for the 111th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival. The family of John and Tammy Adams are Grand Marshals. Winter Carnival Queen is Alena Rossi. Attendants are Anouk Bradley and Ellie McReynolds, and there are eight lovely little princesses. You can see them all in the Winter Carnival Parade around 11 a.m. this Sunday on Lincoln Ave. in downtown Steamboat Springs. And pictures are on the Steamboat Radio Facebook page.
We have a full schedule of Winter Carnival activities on our website. Friday morning is the Christy Sports Soda Pop Slalom at Howelsen Hill. Friday evening is Ski Ballet and the Johnsie Memorial Dual Slalom Bicycle Race. Register in Howelsen Hill Lodge. The Tito’s Mountain Soiree Friday night is sold out.
The Tread of Pioneers Museum has compiled historical footage of the parade, the street events, ski jumping, and the Lighted Man. That video is on our Facebook page. And the museum has many Winter Carnival artifacts, including the Lighted Man’s suit.

The Oak Creek Board of Trustees meets at 6 p.m. tonight. One agenda item is a public hearing on changing the town code where it would allow employees of relatives to be hired, if approved by the Town Board. Oak Creek Town Board Agendas

Members are needed for the Greater Rocky Mountain Resource Advisory Committee. It’s a group that recommends special projects to be implemented on Forest Service Lands in Colorado and Wyoming. The projects have to be better for forests and fish, wildlife and watersheds, trails and roads and other infrastructure. One previous project was improvements to Buff Pass Road. Nominations are due by March 1.

Tonight is Snowcoming for Steamboat Springs High School so you will see some dressed up kids around town, before the Snowcoming Dance.
REPS, which is Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide is offering a QPR Session which means, “Question. Persuade. Refer.” It’s a way to help create a suicide safer society. The session is at 12:30 p.m. Friday, in the Yampa Valley Community Foundation Conference Room at 348 Oak Street in Steamboat Springs. All are invited and it is free. QPR Registration Link

The Steamboat Springs High School Nordic Team competed in Breckenridge Wednesday. Dixie Barnes had the top finish on the girls side in the 5K. For the boys, it was Colin Clark. Emerald Weber had the top Steamboat finish for middle school girls. Ryan Becker finished highest for the Steamboat middle school boys. Ten of the Steamboat Springs kids have qualified for the state competition at Snow Mountain Ranch, Feb. 22-23.
Good luck to a group of Steamboat Special Olympics athletes. They are competing at regional skiing championships at Sunlight Resort Friday and are on their way there this afternoon.
