A 38-year-old man died from a snowmobile accident in Rio Blanco County on Sunday. The Rio Blanco County Coroner says Gregory Thompson was currently living in Highlands Ranch. The incident happened 45 miles northeast of Meeker. Those responding include Meeker Fire/Rescue, Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue, Classic Air Medical, and the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office. They tried to save Thompson but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Conflicts with bears and humans went down last year, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, especially in the northwest corner of the state. Last year, there were 1,228 reports of bear conflicts in the northwest region, which was down 35 percent from the year before.

In the state, CPW said they received 3,526 reports of bear conflicts. 33 bears were relocated and 63 were euthanized, which is 1.8%.

CPW says trash continues to be the number one source of conflicts between humans and bears. They will be out of hibernation soon so bear-proof your home. Lock your doors, windows, and vehicle doors.

A Steamboat Springs man flew home into Yampa Valley Regional Airport Monday night, after being deployed in the Middle East. Staff Sgt. Dan Armstrong is a Parajumper with the 131st Rescue Squadron in California. He can’t give specifics, but he says his team was in the area when an Iranian-made drone killed three American soldiers in Jordan on Jan. 28.

“We were in the neighborhood when that event happened and my team and everybody else on that installation performed very well.”

Armstrong was greeted at the airport by family, Hayden Police and Airport Manager Kevin Booth.

“It’s great to be back, though. We are either consistently in that environment or training to be in that environment. So it’s good to be home, let’s just say that.”

The School Board voted on it unanimously Monday  to have the first Girls Softball Team at the high school in the fall. Moffat County High School Principal Ryan Frink told the board that 13 girls are confirmed to be on the team and 25 more are interested.

They will welcome softball players from the region, in case their schools don’t have a team, like Hayden and Steamboat Springs.

The softball games will be played at the Craig Middle School ball fields.

$10,000 is needed for the first year, which half raised by parents and the community, and the other half from the school district, since they no longer have a boys and girls swim team.

If you want to donate to support the inaugural year of Moffat County Girls Softball, reach out to Principal Frink at ryan.frink@moffatsd.org  Be specific in the donation, that it is to the Girls Softball Team.
