An installation event for the new 8th Street Redevelopment Project in Craig was Friday morning with many local officials in attendance.

Here’s Craig City Manager Peter Brixius, who is also the Executive Director of the Craig Housing Authority.

“This is a first for the community in over 40 years as we build a multi-family housing project. We’re excited about it. It’s the first project of the new Craig Housing Authority.”

Forty modular boxes were built in Buena Vista and have made the journey up to Moffat County. The modular units are now being put together into 20 new townhomes. There will be eight three-bedroom townhomes and 12 two-bedroom units, for singles and families.

It’s on the site of the former property for Memorial Regional Health between 7th and 8th Streets, and Russell and Tucker Streets. MRH and Moffat County donated the property.

During the event, more trucks rolled in with more modulars. Workers were hoisting modulars in place and preparing to place the rooftops.

Craig Mayor Chris Nichols welcomed everyone saying the new townhomes will be a “beautiful, convenient, safe place to raise your family.” He also thanked state legislators including Senator Dylan Roberts.

Yampa Valley Community Foundation provided a $2.5 million loan to help with the funding. Rob Race is the chair of the Impact Investment Committee. He said YVCF has been working with the Craig Housing Authority on the project. “The City of Craig has been thoughtful and deliberate in its need for affordable housing.”

ProSet Construction is the contractor and said they are using as many local subcontractors as they can.

Shannon Scott is heading up the sales and marketing. She said the units are deed restricted and AMI restricted. The range of income for those purchasing will be between $50K and $130K in median household income, depending on how many people live in your household.

The Bank of Colorado is the loan officer. Cornerstone Realty is the designated broker. Units are being advertised for sale and will be ready by the first of August. Pre-applications are being accepted.

Peter Brixius added that the project has taken close to three years to get going as the first project with Craig Housing Authority. He says it is a collaboration between funders, grants, lenders, MRH, state agencies, Moffat County Commissioners and Craig City Council. Brixius also thanked all in attendance.
