Employees in the Steamboat Springs School District are getting a raise, after approval of a new compensation package from the Board of Education. Current certified staff receives an increase in salary ranging from 9.4% to 15.3%. The baseline pay for a new, certified staff with a bachelor’s degree will be $53,500. Returning classified staff gets an increase of $4 per hour, up to $24 per hour. That’s an 18.5% increase in wages.
Also, a one-time $3,000 stipend will be given to occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and school psychologists.
The increased compensation goes into effect for the upcoming school year.

This year’s recipients of the Yampa River Fund have been announced. Five projects are receiving grant money totaling $204,125. Two different projects are with the Community Ag Alliance. The other grants go to projects with Colorado Water Trust, Friends of the Yampa, and Trout Unlimited.

Yampa Valley Medical Center Foundation has announced 18 nonprofits in Routt and Moffat counties, as the recipients of the 2024 grant cycle for the Community Health Benefit Fund. The grants totaled $315,000. The areas of need include health care, mental health, and substance use disorders.
Some examples include the Community Budget Center in Craig which will put their grant dollars towards funding prescription medicines for their clients.
Integrated Community will use its grant fund for the services they provide to immigrants.

Wednesday morning, the parking lot in the Historic Routt County Courthouse in downtown Steamboat Springs is closed for asphalt crack sealing. They’ll open it up when the work is done.
Many folks are helping with clean-up projects throughout Routt County today for the Yampa Valley Day of Caring, presented by United Way.

Today is Scholarship Night for seniors at Steamboat Springs High School. It’s from 6-8 p.m. in the auditorium.
In Hayden today, it is preschool and kindergarten graduation this afternoon and 8th Grade Promotion this afternoon at 6:30.
Spend an evening with the Master Gardeners from the CSU Extension office. They’ll be in Craig at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the extension office at 1198 W. Victory Way. The evening includes basic gardening, climate challenges, vegetable gardening, and answering any questions.

It’s also time to register your float for the 4th of July Parade. This year’s Grand Marshalls are Donnie and Jackie Hayes from Hayden. Floats will be judged on Best Theme, Best Group, Best Commercial, and Best Parade Theme which is “Our Western Heritage – Homegrown Heroes.”

Moffat County High School has honored their senior athletes of the year. Brook Wheeler is joining the Navy’s Nuclear Engineering Program. Hudson Jones has received an appointment to the Air Force Academy. The Student Athlete of the Year honor is called the Dude Dent award, named after Lewis “Dude” Dent who was a 1939 graduate of Craig High School as it was called then. He later was killed in action in France during World War II. It is the 67th year for the Dude Dent Awards.
Nominees for the award were:
(Female) Teya Miller, Brook Wheeler, Emilia Tucker, and Quincy Lowe.
(Male) Ian Hafey, Hudson Jones, Evan Beaver, and Bryan Tarango.
Two more 7th graders have been awarded with the 2024 Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Andrew Weinman attends Sleeping Giant School. Coumba Geppert is at Steamboat Springs Middle School. They have both been chosen to attending a Rotary Leadership camp in Estes Park this summer. They are joining four other seven graders already announced, and two local high school students.
