The owner of Butcherknife Trail and Canyon says she would like to offer the land to the City of Steamboat Springs. It would be part of a deal to annex the property on the north edge of Old Town Steamboat along the edge of Strawberry Park Road for housing. It is actually on the city’s border. A Conceptual Review by the City of Steamboat Springs is complete.

The area would potentially include 39 lots with 78 units. Laura Stout is the principal owner of the property for 28 years. She says this is all very preliminary and she is not sure when the application for annexation will be submitted. She says her number one goal is to do what is best for the community by offering about a 16-acre portion of the parcel to the City of Steamboat Springs which is the Butcherknife Trail area. Stout also says she has no plans to sell the property right now and start developing. She just wants to explore the possibilities, as she always wants to continue living on the property.

The review included reports from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Strawberry Park HOA, and an Historic Preservation Review for the buildings on the property, one of which was built in 1920. Stout says it would be saved.
