An autopsy is scheduled in Grand Junction Monday afternoon for a man from Craig who was shot and killed Friday night in an officer-involved shooting in the Cedar Mountain Trailer Park in Craig. His name has not yet been released, and the Moffat County Coroner says that should happen on Tuesday.
Officers with Craig Police and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the trailer park at in Craig on a report of a man with a handgun. When they arrived, the press release states that they were confronted by the man and the officer-involved shooting occurred.
Members of the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team are investigating. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard protocol with any officer involved shooting.

Hayden Police arrested 44-year-old Leiner G. Barquero Cascante Friday, after getting called to a disturbance on E. Lincoln Ave. in Hayden. It involved three people and an allegation of property being stolen. One person was reported being struck in the face. Cascante is in the Routt County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, and Menacing, and will be in Routt County Court tomorrow morning. West Routt Fire and the Routt County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
The Rangely Police Department is reporting an incident last week about a fight and shots fired at the Main Street Pub in Rangely. Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office also responded. They found people hiding in the bathrooms for safety. Another call came in of “Shots Fired” at the Out There Inn. Both cases were related. Eventually three people were taken to the Moffat County Jail for multiple felony firearms charges.
A $500,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) has been awarded to the Town of Hayden to build a skate and wheel park on the west end of town. There will also be a walking path, small playground, and bathrooms. It will be next to the new Prairie Run affordable housing project being built. Gorman and Company donated the property for the park. Construction starts in late July.
GOCO funds also awarded a $569,000 grant to help the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, to permanently protect 1,643 acres of Wolf Mountain Ranch in Routt County with a conservation easement.

The town of Hayden will be fogging for mosquitos tonight, if the wind and weather cooperates. The fogging is tentatively scheduled around dusk. If there is a weather delay, it will happen Tuesday. Call Town Hall at 970-276-3741 for more information.
Primary ballots are due tomorrow, so get those filled in and dropped off. Remember, for those unaffiliated voters, only fill out ONE ballot, either Democratic or Republican. Local county clerk offices are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets Tuesday morning. The Department of Human Services/Core Services Program/Substance Abuse Treatment Services will discuss contracts. Other agenda items include the appointment of a person on the Moffat County Fair Board, and discussion of a batting cage at Loudy-Simpson Park.
The annual meeting for members of Yampa Valley Electric Association starts with lunch at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25. Registration opens at 3 p.m. and the meeting starts at 3:30 p.m. It’s at YVEA at 3715 East US Hwy 40 just east of Craig.
Routt County 4-H has announced they have three state champions in the 4-H State Robotics Competition Thursday at CSU. Winning their divisions are 10-year-old Tyson Trussell, 11-year-old Jade Mathisen, and the team of Ryan and Ben Becker.
The Moffat County High School Girls Softball team is hosting some open unofficial practices this summer for freshmen through senior aged girls.
This is open to girls in Craig, Meeker, Steamboat Springs, and Hayden. No experience necessary. They are having softball practice on the baseball field at Craig Middle School, at 5 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, through July. For more information, email MJC70Carter@gmail.com
