United States Senator Michael Bennet spent Monday in Northwest Colorado. He first met with local leaders and officials in Moffat County to hear about the negotiation with Tri-State.
“I was in Moffat County today to hear about the historic negotiation that the community has had with Tri-State and the way that they’re thinking about what the future looks like for Northwest Colorado and for Moffat County in particular. And as always, I committed to do everything we can do to support the local community and their efforts and the decisions that they make.”
Senator Bennet then met with constituents at Mountain Tap Brewery in Steamboat Springs.
“Well, Northwest Colorado, there’s so much here that’s exciting in terms of new businesses that are starting and economy that in many ways is growing. But there are big challenges too, like in the cost of housing, and the fact that teachers can’t really afford to live here anymore. And also substantial mental health challenges that we’re seeing all over the state of Colorado without the ability of people to be able to get help for themselves and their families. I think we’re all in this together. We’ve got to figure this out. We’ve got to make sure that rural Colorado and Northwest Colorado have the resources and the benefits of living in this beautiful state. And I think people here are doing everything they can to move their communities forward, to support their way of life, and whatever I can do to help that, I want to do.”
Senator Bennet also spoke with Jeff Steck who is the president of The Veterans Center of Northwest Colorado. Steck thanked Senator Bennet for helping secure a $100,000 grant for the renovation project at The Veterans Center.
On Tuesday, Senator Bennet is meeting with some ranchers in Grand County.
