A wildland fire west of Craig shut down Highway 40 for a while last night. Over 400 acres have burned. No structures were threatened. Yampa Valley Electric had to de-energize the Maybell substation to replace a pole. Lightning may have started that fire.
The Sheep Show was Wednesday at the Moffat County Fair. This year’s Grand Champion is Katie Timmer.
“My grand champion lamb’s name is Sawyer. He has really good genetics. I won last year with his brother.”
Graden Comstock won Best Showmanship.
“Hi, My name is Graden Comstock. This is my fourth year in 4H. This is my lamb named Shane. I won Grand Championship in Showmanship. I feel great.”
We also met the Moffat County Royalty.
The Goat Show is Thursday morning and the Beef Show is at noon Thursday.
The PRCA/WPRA Rodeo is at 7 p.m. tonight at the Moffat County Fairgrounds. This includes the fan favorite Catch-A-Pig, which will be held at intermission so bring the kids. Tonight’s also the Mini Broncos and Bulls. Tickets are at the gate. More information is at MoffatCountyFair.com

New murals are finished in some of the rooms where blood is drawn at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center. The local artists are Kristina Petrash and Erin Branscum. The hospital lab recently underwent a complete renovation.
Touch-a-Truck is back in the parking lot at the Howelsen Hill Rodeo Grounds in Steamboat Springs until noon today. Bring the kids for that one.
The Local Marketing District in Craig is meeting this afternoon in the Moffat County Commissioners Chambers. Agenda items include a final report and grant request from Grand Old West Days.
The Yampa Valley Airport Commission meets tonight at 6 p.m. The meeting is at the airport in Hayden and via ZOOM. Agenda
The Banditas 2nd Annual Fundraiser Minglin’ with the Mustangs is from 3-7 p.m. this Saturday. It’s a day at the ranch for all ages with live music, food, and games, and mingling with the Lucky 7 Herd. Money is being raised for hay for the winter. This non-profit group has saved 32 Sand Wash Basin Mustangs since Sept. 2021. For more information, call 970-819-3307.
