Drive carefully and watch your speed, especially on Friday, Aug. 23, on Hwy 40 between Steamboat Springs and Craig. The regional Colorado State Patrol office says they’ll have troopers, officers, and deputies from multiple agencies in both Routt and Moffat counties, out on Friday.

“We are adding extra patrols looking for dangerous and unsafe drivers. Bad passes, speeding. We’ve got an increased number of traffic complaints. Anything that contributes to crashes or unsafe driving.”

Colorado State Patrol wants to remind everyone to always wear your seat belt, don’t pass on a double yellow line, and never get behind the wheel drunk or high. If you see  someone driving unsafely, dial *CSP.


Colorado Department of Transportation has also reached out that they are working with Colorado State Patrol and 70 local law enforcement agencies for The Heat is ON Campaign through Labor Day. This is where they are cracking down on DUIs as well, with more saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints and additional law enforcement officers on duty, dedicated to arrested impaired drivers.

The Town of Rangely is receiving a $500K Coal Transition Community grant through the Just Transition office. It is part of the Retain, Attract, Rebuild, and Expand (RARE) business support program for three years. It will create a minimum of 15 full-time positions in Rangely, in partnership with in partnership with Colorado Northwestern Community College and the Northwest Small Business Development Center.

“The Town of Rangely via the Rangely Development Association is very proud to be a recipient of a grant to assist with an innovative business support program for local businesses and entrepreneurs which includes development of a pitch competition, also providing a grant award. This will invigorate our business community and encourage entrepreneurs who have been contemplating starting a business or expanding a current business but need assistance, as well as training, to take the next step!” said Lisa Piering, Town Manager for Rangely.

 

You can get up to $500 if you have been doing wildfire mitigation around your home. It’s a program through the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation council. The deadline to apply is Aug. 30. Email any questions to Info@RouttWildfire.org

The Players at Perry-Mansfield present a community player performance of CLUE tonight. It’s at 6 p.m. at Bud Werner Library. They’ll also have a raffle and games.

 

The Moffat County Bulldogs football team is away with a 4 p.m. game Friday afternoon against John F. Kennedy High School at All-City Stadium in Denver. Bulldog Head Coach Nick Colgate says there are 13 seniors on the team this year.

“We’re looking good. We’ve got a big group of seniors that are looking to step up and put together a great season. And we’re working hard.”

 

The Steamboat Sailors volleyball team is at a tournament in Glenwood Springs. It’s a pre-season tournament so Head Coach Wendy Hall says they’ve been practicing as much as they can.

“Everybody is in the same boat. Nobody has had more practices than we have. We had doubles last week to try to get ahead of the game when there was no school. As with any pre-season tournament, you’re not where you want to be but that’s part of the process.”

 

The Hayden and Moffat County Girls Volleyball teams are competing in Rangely.
