“This is a fantastic award not only for our students who academically have worked well together for the three years they are together, but for our teachers who offer many opportunities for them to explore ag, music, art, as well as the community because the community really supports the school district and does a great job with us, so it’s a big award.”

The students gathered Thursday with staff to show off the award they received from The National Forum Advancing Excellence in the Middle Grades.

The program focuses on school improvement efforts characterized by a continuous trajectory toward success.

Katie Gustafson is the Director of the Schools to Watch program. “SoRoCo Middle School ignites student learning through intentional academic opportunities for all students, relentless relationship building, and innovative elective opportunities to meet interests of all students in the school.” She added, “SoRoCo’s faculty and administrative team continuously strives to innovate and elevate learning, to reach and teach every child!”

“We are moving in the right direction. We’ve been down to Rio Blanco. We’ve met with at least five to six organizations over there. We’ve got the Human Resource Council Coalition both in Routt and Moffat County doing a lot of work there, too.”

The event was also to thank Kate Nowak for her 11 years with the local United Way, as she is retiring.

“I feel good about them. I feel like we’ve got to be gritty. They’re a good team, but we’re better, I feel like.”

But the Bulldogs made it to the final four in the state playoffs last year.
