Fatality on Hwy 40 at Mile Marker 118 Tuesday night

UPDATE at 9:40 Wednesday morning.

The name of the person who died last night in the three-vehicle crash on Highway 40 has been released. He is 38-year-old Daniel Sundar-Baker of Craig. Routt County Coroner Mitch Locke has notified his family and released his name this morning. Our condolences to his friends and family.

 

UPDATE:  Highway 40 has just reopened at 10:13 p.m. Routt County Coroner Mitch Locke confirmed to Steamboat Radio News that “There was one fatality on the road and I am notifying the family.” He says the name will be released on Wednesday.

 

UPDATE AT 6:11 p.m. Colorado State Patrol is reporting that all three people involved in the crash at Mile Post 118 are from Craig. The person who died has not been identified. The vehicles involved are a Chevy Equinox, Ford F-250 Supercab, and a Ford Ranger.  Still no word on when Hwy 40 will re-open. Traffic is being re-routed on Routt County Road 27.

On the crash at Mile Marker 127, the driver was a 19-year-old male who was issued a summons for careless driving causing bodily injury and driving a vehicle without a driver’s license or permit. There were two passengers and one was transported to the hospital.

 

 

Colorado State Patrol is reporting a fatality tonight, at Mile Post 118. This is west of Milner. CSP says the call came in at 4:32 and the fatality was confirmed at 4:50 p.m. Colorado State Patrol is waiting for the Routt County Coroner.

The call originally came in as three vehicles involved with injuries at 4:32 p.m. and the fatality was confirmed at 4:50 p.m.

Routt County Dispatch says it is unknown how long Hwy 40 will be closed.

There is another closure at Mile Post 127, which is near Steamboat Golf Club. Colorado State Patrol says it is a single vehicle vs. tree.
