A body was discovered in the water along Walton Creek Road between Owl Hoot Trail and Hwy 40 Thursday afternoon. A man spotted the body when walking his dog. Steamboat Police say the deceased individual has been identified and next of kin is being notified., It is a man who was reported missing earlier this week, from Saratoga, Wyoming.
Here is Steamboat Springs Police Detective Tabitha Alt with a statement released at the scene.
“After officers responded to an unattended death today at 4:11 p.m. near the intersection of Owl Hoot Trail and Walton Creek Road, they confirmed that there is a deceased individual. At this time, there is no signs of suspicious activity or foul play. The identify of the deceased is being withheld pending notification and next of kin. The investigation is ongoing and we are working closely with the medical examiner and officers to determine the cause of death. We ask for the public’s patience and cooperation as we complete the necessary steps. Further details will be released as they become available.”

Necropsy results are in on the gray wolf that was found dead on Sept. 10, in Grand County. U.S. Fish and Wildlife says wounds on the wolf are consistent with a fight, “likely involving another wolf.” Hair samples from the scene also indicate another wolf. The wolf that died also had an old, healed gunshot wound to its rear leg. The male wolf was one of that was introduced to Colorado last December from Oregon.

Routt County residents in need of a coat can get one from the recent coat drive. They are at LiftUp. Bring your I.D. and get a voucher first at the LiftUp Food Bank. The free coats for those who need them are available through the end of November.
Local veterans will be keeping warm with new quilts made for them, courtesy of the Delectable Mountain Quilters Guild. Sixteen veterans received beautiful hand-made quilts from the quilters last night at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Nancy Wilson is with the guild.
“My dad was a WWII vet. And I just feel like, in honoring him, and all our other veterans, that it’s just a little thing I can do to make these quilts and coordinate all these other women that want to make these quilts to give to our veterans locally.”
Twelve women made the quilts for the veterans, and you can see the pictures on our Facebook page.
Local veterans are busy for the upcoming Veterans Day on Monday. This morning, Routt County Veterans are at the Steamboat Christian Center and then Casey’s Pond.
The Back-of-the-House Employee of the Year with Colorado Restaurant Association is Ricardo Tyrell, the line cook from Salt & Lime. He was in the running and now it was confirmed at the Hospitality Awards in Denver this week, where Ricardo was honored.
Join the Hayden Arts Commission for a screening of “Beyond the Fantasy.” It’s a ski movie at the Hayden Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with food and drink. Showtime is at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for kids and adults are available at the door.
The annual Hunter Open House is at the Craig Chamber of Commerce, 775 Yampa Ave., all day today.
Sunday, the third rifle combined deer and elk hunting starts, and runs through Nov. 15.
Saturday…
Drop off your Halloween Pumpkins from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the parking lot across from Yampa Valley Foods. That’s at 35 11th Street. The pumpkins will be given to local ag producers to be turned into compost and animal feed. Please make sure the pumpkins don’t have any paint, or wax, or candles.
Girls on the Run is hosting a 5K Saturday, Nov. 9. Packet pickup is at 9:30 a.m. and the run starts at 11 a.m. from Strawberry Park Elementary.

The Hayden Tiger Booster Club presents the 2024 Athletic Gala Diamonds & Denim Casino Night. It’s Saturday evening, Nov. 9 in the Routt County Exhibit Hall at the fairgrounds in Hayden. The event supports Hayden Schools and the Booster Club.

The Steamboat Sailors are hosting Rifle, and they could get a playoff spot if they win. Here is Sailor Head Coach Scott Pryzmus.
“It’s going to be a great game. We actually have something to play for this year. I’m proud of the boys and all the things we’ve been able to accomplish this season, from starting off 4-0, and having a win against Moffat County and putting ourselves in a possible playoff situation if all the chips land where they may.”
The Sailors are 5-3. The Rifle Bears have not won a game. They’re at 0-8.
It is also Senior Night for the Sailors. Twelve players and their families will be honored and recognized at halftime. Kickoff tonight is at 7 p.m. and you can listen to the game on KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM or through the Sailors YouTube Channel on our website.
