Colorado Parks and Wildlife has issued an emergency closure of the Christina State Wildlife Area in Routt County. It is because of an eroding stream bank along the Elk River, which is close to a private residence. The stream bank has to be fortified, so the parking lot there, which is along County Road 129, will be used as a staging area for heavy equipment. The Christina State Wildlife area is a 23-acre fishing easement held by CPW. It is about seven miles north of Steamboat Springs on County Road 129, just past the Mad Creek parking lot and trail head. For questions, contact the area CPW office at 970-870-3333.
