It is for her role in securing a $1.3 million grant for recruitment for rural fire departments. Horn is a resident of South Routt County.

Chief Brita Horn honored with Congressional District Volunteer Award
Boulder, CO- On Friday, Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brita Horn was honored with the Volunteer of the Year award during Colorado’s Second Congressional District Awards ceremony held at CU-Boulder.
“I am blessed to lead a wonderful and dedicated department and it is truly an honor to be recognized for the amazing work our department provides to our community,” said Chief Horn.
“Colorado has 375 fire districts protecting our state of which around 125 are made up mostly of volunteers, it is important that we recognize and support these volunteers who respond during people’s darkest times,” added Horn.
Under the leadership of Chief Horn, the Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department secured a $1.3 million-dollar federal grant supporting the volunteer firefighters within her department and eight other rural Colorado fire districts.
The Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department serves a approximately 350 residents over a vast 244-square-mile area comprised of ranches, homes, rivers, and a major travel corridors. In addition, Chief Horn has been an active participant in the Colorado State Fire Commission, Colorado State Fire Chief’s Association, International Fire Chiefs Association, Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code Board and many other civic and professional organizations.
