CNCC Appoints Nicholas Cocozzella as Chief Operations Officer
Craig, CO – Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is excited to announce the appointment of Nicholas Cocozzella as its new Chief Operations Officer for the Craig campus. Cocozzella began his journey at CNCC in 2016, teaching a Singer-Songwriter class where he guided students in the art of writing and recording music. In 2019, he took a full-time position at CNCC as Advising and Retention Specialist before moving into the position of Director of Concurrent Enrollment. He served in that capacity until his recent promotion to Chief Operations Officer. In addition to his new leadership role, Cocozzella will continue to serve as Director of Concurrent Enrolment under the new title of Director of Secondary Partnerships.
“My journey at Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) has been both rewarding and transformative,” Cocozzella said. “As an advisor, I gained valuable insight into student needs and academic pathways. As Director of Concurrent Enrollment, I built partnerships with surrounding high schools and expanded access to college classes by 158% over 4 years.”
Cocozzella’s previous experience as Educational Director and Regional Manager at GOAL High School has further developed his leadership, community development, and operational management skills. These experiences have shaped his approach to education and leadership, preparing him to contribute to CNCC’s mission with confidence and enthusiasm.
“My main goal is to create an environment where every member of the CNCC community feels empowered to contribute to our mission,” Cocozzella stated. “I’m focused on enhancing campus safety, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening our ties with the local community.”
Cocozzella aims to strengthen relationships with local high schools to expand opportunities for students to access higher education. “By fostering stronger partnerships and exploring innovative pathways, we can create seamless transitions for students, ensuring they are prepared for in-demand careers,” he added.
Cocozzella’s leadership strategy prioritizes open communication and inclusivity. He plans to host regular forums for feedback and celebrate innovative ideas that drive progress. “Ultimately, my leadership approach is shaped by the values of integrity, service, and collaboration,” he emphasized. “I strive to be someone who leads by example, communicates openly, and creates an environment where people feel valued and empowered.”
Cocozzella recognizes that one of the biggest challenges facing CNCC is adapting to changing educational and economic demands and while maintaining enrollment numbers. “Addressing this requires a proactive approach, including targeted recruitment efforts, enhanced student support, and strong community partnerships,” he concluded. You’ll find Cocozzella in the administrative offices of the main academic building on the Craig campus, where he is easily accessible to students and staff, and always ready to welcome visitors.
