Alma Montes was in the virtual Routt County Courtroom Wednesday. She is the pre-school teacher accused in the case involving Young Tracks Early Childhood Learning Center, that is now closed. Montes’ attorney. Stacy Marczak-Grande, said she received 405 items of discovery on Tuesday, and she wasn’t sure what else would be coming in so she asked for 30 days to go through it. The next court date for Montes is at 10:30 a.m. April 30, for a Status Conference.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed a wolf depredation of a dog in Jackson County on March 9. No other details are being released including whether it was a collared wolf with a GPS tracker, or an uncollared wolf.

 

There was another wolf depredation of a cow in Jackson County on Feb. 5, and that was from a wolf that was uncollared. The Jackson County producer in that case has submitted a claim of $2,097.66.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering $1 million in grants to help reduce human-bear conflicts in local communities. Apply on CPW’s website by May 30.

Local governments and community partners in the Yampa Valley are considering forming a Regional Transportation Authority. This is for Routt and Moffat counties. Thursday night is a meeting at 6 p.m. in the Town of Hayden Council Chambers.

  • Michael Buccino, Councilor, City of Steamboat Springs
  • Sonja Macys, Commissioner, Routt County
  • Ryan Banks, Mayor, Town of Hayden

Also at Thursday night’s Hayden Town Council meeting, Officer Bobby Adler will be officially sworn in to the Hayden Police Department.

 

Two local students were recognized for their role with the local Civil Air Patrol. Graham Smith is a freshman at SoRoCo High School. Lucas Froman is a freshman at Steamboat Springs High School. They were honored with the Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award, meaning they have been promoted to a cadet officer.

Both Smith and Froman will now lead and serve junior-raking cadets. The local Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Steamboat Springs Composite Squadron is for young adults between the ages of 12 and 21. They meet on Tuesday evenings at the FBO building of the Steamboat Springs (Bob Adams) Airport.

It is Ag Appreciation Week this week. The local Community Ag Alliance hosted the Ag Community Breakfast Wednesday, at the Community Center. A Chicken Butchery Class is from 4-6 p.m. today at MeatBar. Details on this week’s events are at www.communityagalliance.org

 

Paramount+ is returning to the base area of Steamboat Resort with their interactive experience the “The Lodge.” It’s near Slopeside Grill. The Lodge has scenes inspired from their “1923” series, some iconic moments in CBS Sports history, SpongeBob, Dora, Paw Patrol, and Survivor. Tickets are free but they ask that you reserve a spot between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday through next Tuesday, March 21-25.

The Steamboat Springs community celebrated the state champion hockey teams at Howelsen Ice Arena Wednesday night. The boys won the 4A CHSAA State High School Championships, and the Steamboat Stampede 19U girls team won the Colorado Girls Hockey League for the second year in a row. Their championship banners will proudly hang from the rafters at Howelsen Ice Arena.

Sixteen Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes competed at Junior Nationals in Utah, with multiple top ten finishes. Tristan Thrasher took the silver medal in freestyle skate 10K.
