Press Release from Routt County; March 25, 2025.

Routt County Submits Applications for Congressionally Directed Spending

Routt County, CO, March 25, 2025 – Routt County has submitted three applications for Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS). CDS is a mechanism by which members of Congress can request funding for specific projects in their home state. In recent years, nonprofits, state, local and Tribal government entities have been eligible for consideration. Applications are submitted to Senator Bennet’s and Senator Hickenlooper’s offices. Each senator will then review requests and submit to the Senate Committee on Appropriations individually.

Routt County was directed to submit applications for the following three projects:

  • Yampa Valley Regional Airport Expansion Project: The Yampa Valley Regional Airport, owned and operated by Routt County, is seeking $3.4 million to support a portion of its $75 million terminal expansion project. This expansion is critical to accommodating the growing demand for air travel and enhancing the passenger experience by providing modern, efficient facilities. The project will also improve the airport’s capacity to support economic development and tourism in the region.
  • Safe Crossing: Move US-40 Forward: Routt County is seeking $3 million to install a safe crossing at Brandon Circle on US-40. This project, named “Safe Crossings: Move US-40 Forward,” aims to enhance safety and improve traffic flow for both residents and visitors traveling through the area. The crossing installation will address critical safety concerns and support active commutes for individuals and families in the surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Routt County Communications Radio Replacement: The Routt County Communications Department is requesting funding to replace 360 outdated radios at an estimated cost of $2 million. These radios are vital for communication between first responders and emergency personnel during critical incidents across the county. The replacement will ensure more reliable, efficient, and secure communication, ultimately enhancing the department’s ability to respond to emergencies effectively.

Applications were submitted on March 24, 2025 and are for shovel ready projects in 2026. Awards will be announced in spring 2026.
