Changes are starting May 7, that could affect travelers who are flying. The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, will be enforcing what is called “REAL ID” requirements at all TSA security checkpoints nationwide. That includes Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden.
Any passenger 18 or over has to have a REAL ID-compliant form of identification or another acceptable form of ID, such as a valid passport. If you don’t have one, there may be additional screening, delays, or you may not get to fly at all.
The REAL ID Driver’s Licenses or state-issued IDs have a star at the top right corner of the card. There are a few other forms of ID that are accepted. That list is on our website.
Again, this starts May 7.

Adult passengers 18 and older must show valid identification at the airport checkpoint in order to travel.
The list of acceptable IDs is subject to change without notice. TSA strongly encourages you check this list again before traveling, so you do not arrive at the airport without acceptable ID.
- Driver’s licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
- Beginning May 7, 2025, if you plan to use your state-issued ID or license to fly within the U.S., it must be REAL ID compliant. If you are not sure if your ID complies with REAL ID, check with your state department of motor vehicles.
