The plaque ceremony was Thursday for two historic buildings added to the Steamboat Springs Register of Historic Places. Both are former homes that house the Tread of Pioneers Museum at 8th and Oak. The Seymour/Utterback House was built in 1898. The Campbell/Zimmerman House was built in 1901.

Students at Yampa Valley High School served a delicious dinner to about 80 people Thursday night, in Allbright Auditorium at CMC. It was the culmination of an eight-week Project-Based Learning program on food and food systems. Each group of students spoke about what they prepared, emphasizing health, sustainability, and the feasibility of making it.

Those businesses supporting the program include: CSU, Community Ag Alliance, Mountain Bluebird Farms, LiftUp of Routt County, Routt County, CSU Extension, Legacy Ranch, Fitch Ranch Artisan Meats in Craig, CMC, and Las Central (Florencia and Brian Morales).

The South Routt Elementary Fun Run had about 150 students, with parents and teachers running through the streets of Yampa for the annual fun run tradition. Third grader Eli Thompson was the fastest finisher. Fourth grader Lucy Thompson was the fastest girl (no relation).

Medical and mobility devices are being collected this afternoon at the UCHealth SportsMed Clinic at 1025 Central Park Drive. Braces, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs are all needed and will be donated to Crutches4Africa. The drive is in partnership with Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs.

Karson Fedinic is on his way to Frisco, Texas, today. The junior at Moffat County High School is representing Colorado at the Southwest Regional Youth of the Year Competition for the Boys & Girls Club. There are finalists from eight states and the regional winner advances to nationals in Los Angeles.

“I am so thankful to the Club and the entire Valley for the support I have received on my Youth of the Year journey and am honored to represent the State of Colorado and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado at the Regional event,” says Karson.

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Freestyle Director Ann Battelle has been named the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Development Coach of the Year and Freestyle Development Coach of the Year. And 25 SSWSC athletes and alumni have been nominated to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams.

 

43rd annual Cabaret continues tonight through Saturday at the Depot Art Center. It’s an ‘80s theme this year.

The 3rd Annual ABC Hockey Tournament, the “Howie Dome Heater” is May 16-18. It’s a benefit for the Routt First Responders Foundation. Teams are guaranteed three games and a chance for the playoffs. All skill levels are welcome. Register at RFRFHockey.com

 

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Community Bike and Sport Swap is Saturday, May 17, in the parking lot at Howelsen Hill. The community is invited to buy and/or sell bikes and equipment. Consignment drop-off is from 8:30-9:30 a.m. with pickup at noon. Shopping for all is from 10 a.m. to noon. There is a $5 sale fee per item up to $20 max. 10×10’ spaces are available. SSWSC retains a 25% commission on all sold items up to $1000 sale price. If an item is over $1000, the commission is 10%. Proceeds benefit Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes.

 

Saturday is a highway cleanup in South Routt. Meet at 9 a.m. at Crossan’s Market in Yampa. Wear good walking shoes, a hat and gloves, and sunscreen. This is weather permitting. Watch for updates on social media and at the Yampa Post Office.

 

 

Saturday is Moffat County and Craig Clean-up Days. Tires, appliances, auto/commercial batteries and e-waste will be accepted at the north end of City Park from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. NO TRASH ACCEPTED but residential customers can drop off bagged leaves and branches at the City Park Event for FREE!

Saturday, May 17, is Historic Preservation Day at Wildhorse Cinema. You can watch adult and family-friendly preservation films, starting at noon, sponsored by Historic Routt County.

 

Coffee & Cars is from 9-11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Transit Center.

 

Saturday, May 17, is the 2025 Spirit Challenge Run for Autism. It’s a 5K and 10K Run/Walk open for all ages at Steamboat Springs Middle School. There is also an 800-meter fun run for kids. Register starting at 8 a.m. and the race is at 9 a.m. Register at RunningSeries.com. Proceeds benefit Yampa Valley Autism.

 

There is a garage sale in the Wells Fargo Upper Parking Lot from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17. All proceeds benefit the Animal Assistance League of Northwest Colorado.

 

The 3rd Annual Carbon County (Wyoming) “Go Topless” (as in Jeeps) Day is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17. It’s a worldwide tradition for the Jeep community to celebrate the start of spring by taking off their Jeep tops. More than 360+ events happened in 2024 and it’s happening this year at the Carbon County Fairgrounds in Rawlins, Wyoming. There will be drawings, prizes, food, kids events, and vendors. The 2025 Youth Leadership Summit is Sunday, May 18. Local youth groups are working together for an event where youth can share their accomplishments, learn leadership skills, and collaborate on local causes.
