Gun Safes and lock boxes are available to Routt and Moffat County residents. It’s from a Gun Violence Prevention grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The grant is to fund the purchase of gun safes to be distributed in the community. Elk River Guns has partnered with Routt County Public Health with the project, which will provide lock box safes, biometric safes, and rifle cases to residents in Moffat and Routt counties. They’re available while supplies last and they have to all be distributed by the end of June.

Event Dates & Locations:

  • Friday, June 13, noon to 3 p.m. – Gun Safe Distribution Event in the Routt County Community Room, 613 Oak Street, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487
  • Saturday, June 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Steamboat Springs Farmer’s Market (vouchers only)
  • Sunday, June 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Oak Creek Farmer’s Market
  • Thursday, June 26, 5-8 p.m. – Hayden Farmer’s Market

More on the Story — Routt and Moffat County residents can receive a gun safe and lock box for free

“Be Bear Aware” and remember not to leave your trashcans out overnight. A bear got into trashcans and the dumpsters at Steamboat Springs High School Wednesday. Trashcans have to be secure and bear-proof in Steamboat Springs. Also, always lock the doors on your vehicle as they like to get into cars and look for food. If the door shuts and they can’t get out, your vehicle could be totaled.

Steamboat Resort is going cashless on Friday, June 13. You have to have a credit card, or Tap-to-pay on your phone, or use your Ikon Pass. This is for all resort operations including restaurants, food courts, retail and rental, and the ticket office. All major credit cards are accepted. There is a Reverse ATM available for guests near Timber & Torch where you can put in cash and get a Visa debit card to use.

Also on Saturday, the Bike Park at Steamboat Resort opens for the season, as do daily operations.

Summer in Steamboat Springs

The fun is in Hayden tonight with the Walnut Street Dance. It’s from 5-8 p.m. on S. Walnut Street. It’s free and open for all ages. There will be music, dancing, food, drinks, crafts, and fun. The band on Thursday is the Rough Stock Band.

Friday is Hayden Town Park Beautification Day. Partners for Youth is organizing high school and middle school students to help with planting shrubs, flowers, and trees through the park on 3rd Street in Hayden, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. There will be free food and drinks from Yampa Sandwich Company.

The U18 Steamboat Soccer Club Boys team is on its way to Boise, Idaho, right now, to compete in the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships. Their first game is Friday morning. If they win the tournament, which lasts through Tuesday, they’ll qualify for Nationals in Florida next month. The local team made it to regionals after winning the Presidents Cup in the Colorado Soccer Association last month.
