Local schools have been honored and recognized. The Colorado Department of Law is awarding $5 million in grants to nine school districts to strengthen school-community partnerships and promote youth wellbeing across the state. The South Routt School District, Hayden School District and Totally Kids will receive $565,000 to expand Out-of-School Time programming on Fridays and during summer break. First Impressions of Routt County is also a recipient to help promote skills of early childhood educators.

Steamboat Springs School District has received two Sustainability Awards for Climate Literacy Leadership at Steamboat Springs High School and for Green Skills Education within the district, including the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Yampa Valley Regional Airport has a new director. Tinneal Gerber replaces Kevin Booth. Gerber has been the Assistant Airport Director. She starts in her new job as director on July 6.

 

 

The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo series starts this weekend. It’s every Friday and Saturday night through Aug. 23 at the rodeo grounds at Howelsen Hill. Here’s Brent Romick with more on this summer’s rodeo fun.

How to ride the Bustang and connect with other Bustang services is the subject of a free, hands-on Rider Training and Train-the-Trainer event. It’s for community members, service providers, and mobility professionals to feel more confident navigating the Bustang system. Snacks and lunch will be provided. It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Craig Chamber of Commerce. RSVP by Thursday, June 19, to Hope Hunt at Hope@NWCCI.org

 

 

Memphis Roots Rock Singer/Songwriter Chris Nurthren is traveling through Steamboat Springs today. He’s on his way to Montana to perform as a finalist in the Rocky Mountain Songwriters Contest. Nurthren is also a former Naval Officer and Varsity football player at the Naval Academy. He started a band called Sweetnur. Nurthren is performing at 8 p.m. tonight at the Old Town Pub in Steamboat Springs.

 

Register by today for Babysitter Training. It is for youth ages 11 and older, hosted by Routt County Public Health and CSU Extension. It’s an 8-hour course on Friday, June 27. The course will cover:

  • Safety
  • Introduction to first aid and CPR
  • Cooking and nutrition
  • Caring for children at different ages and stages
  • Entertainment
  • Business of babysitting

Congratulations to Rhys Morgan, Steamboat Springs High School graduate from the Class of 2019, who is graduating today from the US Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut as a rescue swimmer. The United States Coast Guard Aviation Survival Technician (AST)/Helicopter Rescue Swimmer team is trained to respond in extreme rescue situations such as medical evacuations, downed aviators, sinking vessels and hurricanes. There are about 350 active-duty members and just over 1000 members have passed the training to become a rescue swimmer since the mid 80s
